Ursa Major Adopts Dyndrite for Rocket Engine Production

In a strategic move set to reshape how rocket propulsion systems are designed and manufactured, Ursa Major has officially partnered with Dyndrite, selecting its LPBF Pro software as the foundation of its additive manufacturing (AM) operations. This decision comes after a rigorous six-month evaluation, where Dyndrite’s next-gen toolset consistently outperformed legacy AM software across all key benchmarks.

For Ursa Major—already a trailblazer in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) applications—this partnership is more than a software upgrade. It’s a decisive leap into a new era of programmable, scalable, and agile AM-driven production. From material development to part qualification and ultimately to serial production, Dyndrite will now serve as the digital engine behind some of the most advanced rocket propulsion systems in the world.

This collaboration is already bearing fruit. The Draper engine line, known for its compact, high-thrust performance and sophisticated capabilities like vector control and mission restarts, is now the first in Ursa Major’s fleet to be built using Dyndrite LPBF Pro. Engineers are seeing tangible benefits—faster build file preparation, reduced support structures, better print resolution, and significantly improved microstructure and surface finishes. Particularly for designs with thin walls or low-angle overhangs, the improvements have been game-changing.

Ursa Major’s Director of Additive Manufacturing, Thomas Pomorski, captured the momentum perfectly: “Dyndrite’s tools are helping us scale complex hardware across machines and platforms. Together, we’re unlocking a new vision for propulsion manufacturing that was simply out of reach a year ago.”

The excitement is mutual. Dyndrite’s Head of Product, Steve Walton, shared how closely the teams have collaborated—and how satisfying it is to see the software solving long-standing industry problems in real time. And Dyndrite CEO Harshil Goel sees the partnership as proof of a broader shift taking hold across aerospace and defense: “This is what LPBF Pro was built for—empowering manufacturers like Ursa Major to move fast, scale smart, and take full control of their process.”

By replacing outdated workflows with a programmable, automation-ready system, Ursa Major is laying the groundwork for a faster, more efficient production line that can keep pace with growing defense and commercial space demands. And with Dyndrite as their digital backbone, they’re not just building engines—they’re building the future of high-performance manufacturing.
