Zscaler and Rubrik announce a new collaboration and technological integration

  • Data-at-rest intelligence combined with data-in-motion security delivers end-to-end cybersecurity
  • The new integration enables smarter and more complete data loss prevention
  • IT and security teams can now collaborate effectively to combat escalating cyberthreats

In order to streamline data protection and compliance and improve cyber resilience, Zscaler, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZS), the pioneer in cloud security, and Rubrik, the Zero Trust Data SecurityTM Company, today announced a new partnership and technology integration. With the help of this new integration, more security and compliance teams will have access to valuable data security insights that will help them strengthen their data protection procedures and lessen the risk of losing important business data.

Organisations struggle to prevent the intentional or unintentional exfiltration of sensitive data as it continues to proliferate across enterprise, cloud, and SaaS environments. Security has risen to the top of organisations’ concerns as a result of the growth and expansion of both data and users across increasingly dispersed environments and regulations.

Mission-critical datasets are expanding quickly and becoming more dispersed, according to the latest State of Data Security report from Rubrik Zero Labs. In 2022, organisations will be securing on average 61% more data in the cloud and 226% more data in SaaS applications than they did in previous years, according to new Rubrik data, signalling a significant shift in security tactics. According to Zscaler’s 2023 Phishing Report, new and developing threats like Adversary-in-the-Middle (AitM) attacks, Phishing-as-a-Service (PaaS) kits, and AI tools like ChatGPT caused a nearly 50% increase in phishing attacks globally in 2022 compared to 2021.

Data has become an organization’s biggest risk and biggest competitive advantage in the cloud and AI era. Numerous businesses have benefited from Zscaler’s data protection innovations in preventing the leakage of sensitive data. The data protection platform from Zscaler secures cloud channels and offers first-in-class features like zero configuration deployment and AI/ML-based automatic data discovery. Its feature-rich platform offers accuracy through Exact Data Match (EDM) and Indexed Document Matching (IDM) technology, allowing specific data values and sensitive file fingerprinting for outbound traffic matching data protection policies to be enforced precisely. Integrated workflow helps users behave appropriately when handling sensitive data and maximises the use of security team resources.

In order to make it simple to implement specific data protections to prevent data loss, Rubrik’s integration with Zscaler Data Loss Prevention (DLP) proactively identifies sensitive business data across enterprise, cloud, and SaaS environments. Since scanning production systems is complicated, CPU-intensive, and requires a separate indexing infrastructure to manage, organisations have historically struggled to identify sensitive data throughout their digital estate.

With this new integration and capability, Rubrik Sensitive Data Monitoring & Management can find and categorise sensitive data that is out-of-band of the customer’s production environment. Customers can now more easily recognise the sensitive data that really matters and use these insights to enforce data protection policies without having to deal with the complexity and burden of taxing production systems. Organisations can be sure that they will be able to stop even more data loss by effectively enforcing data protection policies.

“The growth and sophistication of cyberattacks show no signs of slowing down, and they’re all after one thing – your data,” said Bipul Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder of Rubrik. “For this reason, we’re thrilled to partner with Zscaler, a leader in cybersecurity who has ingrained zero trust in their DNA. We will work together to reduce the risks of cyberattacks and give organisations cyber resilience for our shared customers.

In order to maintain business-critical operations, organisations must give top priority to a zero trust strategy, according to Jay Chaudhry, CEO, chairman, and founder of Zscaler. Combining the leadership and expertise of Zscaler and Rubrik in zero-trust data security enables our joint customers to easily protect their most sensitive and important data, allowing them to be more agile and responsive.

Because previous implementations were frequently very manual, management was difficult, and the responsibility for data classification was frequently placed on the end user, data loss prevention has a bad reputation. According to Frank Dickson, Group Vice President, Security & Trust, IDC, “The Rubrik and Zscaler integration addresses a critical need through automation by enabling organisations to easily implement protections on critical data while minimising the management burden on data security professionals.

This week’s RSA Conference 2023 is being held at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco, and Rubrik will showcase this new integration there at booth #235. In Moscone South Expo Hall, booth #2051, Zscaler will be giving a presentation during RSA. The answer will be widely accessible in the upcoming months.
