Moovit Launches ATAC Ticketing in Rome for Seamless Travel

The partnership expands mobility options for residents and tourists during the Jubilee year and beyond

Moovit, the leading commuter app, announced a significant partnership expansion with ATAC, with fare ticketing powered by Wetechnology, making it easier than ever to get around Rome. For the first time, residents and visitors can now plan their journeys and purchase public transport tickets directly within Moovit, the Capital’s most accurate and trusted mobility app. The new service, which leverages Wetechnology’s sales and technology infrastructure, enables public transport riders to quickly find the best routes and seamlessly purchase and validate tickets for all ATAC-operated lines — all from a single platform.

Moovit’s new service, available on iOS and Android, has already seen tremendous success: During its test phase, travelers from over 42 different countries have taken advantage of Moovit’s ticketing feature to get around Rome during the Jubilee year, confirming Moovit’s leadership in the field of transportation.

Already trusted by more than 1 billion users in 3,500 cities across 112 countries, Moovit brings its global expertise to Rome with unmatched local accuracy. The app, available in 45 languages, helps both locals and international visitors plan multimodal journeys with real-time information, Live Directions, with Get Off alerts, and Service Alerts to avoid disruptions. The Jubilee year is drawing record numbers of visitors to Rome, making this all-in-one solution particularly valuable.

This initiative is part of the national MaaS4Italy project, led by the Department for Digital Transformation with the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The aim is to test the Mobility as a Feature (MaaF) model, designed to make mobility a seamless and integrated service, accessible through a wide range of digital platforms.

“Moovit’s partnership with ATAC underscores our ongoing commitment to the citizens and tourists of Rome,” said Samuel Sed Piazza, Sr. Director of Sales & Global Partnerships at Moovit. “As urban mobility continues to evolve, having precise travel planning solutions and easy access to ticket purchasing has become essential. Moovit’s latest offering represents a significant step forward in providing more convenient travel options for the millions of residents and visitors who already rely on the app across Italy. They can now plan, pay, and ride across major cities more easily, get to their destination on time, and fully enjoy the events and performances these vibrant places have to offer.”

“The partnership between ATAC and Moovit, active for several years now, enables Moovit to provide arrival predictions for public transport in Rome with a level of accuracy that, compared to other cities, is unique,” said Paoli Aielli, ATAC’s General Director. “The integration of the ticket purchasing feature marks a further step forward: Moovit is, in fact, a leading app at the international level, with over one billion users worldwide and available in more than 40 languages. A particularly relevant aspect concerns tourists: thanks to this innovation, foreign visitors who already use Moovit in their own countries will be able to continue doing so in Rome as well, without having to download new apps or face language barriers. They will be able to purchase tickets directly in the app, navigate the city’s public transport system with ease, and enjoy a smoother, more intuitive, and seamless travel experience. This makes Rome even more welcoming and accessible for those arriving from abroad.”

“Our company was founded to make mobility more shared and accessible, and we are very proud to have made it easier for Moovit users in Rome to purchase public transport tickets. We now look forward to bringing this service to new cities soon,” said Massimiliano Curto, CEO of WeTechnology Srl.

Moovit’s superior data quality ensures that travelers get the most accurate arrival times and route options in the Capital.

In Rome and its surrounding region, Moovit integrates all seven transport modes—bus, train, metro, tram, ferry, funicular, and cable car—offered by multiple local carriers. This means transport riders can plan end-to-end routes in seconds and know exactly when to leave, where to transfer, and when to get off.
