Amid the global surge in AI semiconductor adoption, Rigaku Corporation is stepping up in a big way. The Tokyo-based leader in X-ray analytical technology has announced a major boost in its production capacity for semiconductor process control instruments, responding swiftly to the industry’s growing demand for high-precision metrology.
This expansion comes as the semiconductor industry pushes the boundaries of performance, density, and complexity. The demand for inspection tools capable of accurately evaluating ultra-fine nanoscale structures—like thin, multi-layered profiles, 3D memory, and next-generation transistor designs—is growing rapidly. Rigaku is positioning itself at the forefront of this shift.

To meet these emerging needs, Rigaku has significantly increased production capacity at two key locations: its own manufacturing plant in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, and at a partner facility operated by Nippo Precision Co., Ltd. in Nirasaki, Yamanashi Prefecture. With the addition of new assembly and inspection areas—effectively doubling the available floor space—and a new production facility focused on core components like X-ray generators and detectors, the company is projecting a 50% increase in production output by Q4 of FY2025 compared to the same quarter last year.
And that’s only the start. Rigaku plans to nearly double that number again by 2027, a clear indicator of its dedication to long-term development and continued support of the semiconductor industry.
“This reinforcement of our production framework marks an important milestone for Rigaku’s global strategy,” said Markus Kuhn, General Manager of the company’s Semiconductor Metrology Division. “Our platforms are engineered for reliability and precision—qualities that are critical for next-gen devices like 3D-NAND and GAA transistors. With expanded production, we’re not just meeting demand—we’re enhancing our ability to deliver on time and support our customers at every stage, from R&D to high-volume manufacturing.”

Rigaku’s expansion is part of a larger strategic push to scale alongside the semiconductor industry’s evolution. The company expects this new capacity to fuel significant revenue growth, targeting a 20% increase in full-year sales of its semiconductor process control equipment by the end of FY2025.
As AI accelerates the pace of innovation in chip design, companies like Rigaku are laying the foundation to ensure that the tools behind that innovation are every bit as advanced—and ready to scale with the future.
